Dr. Lingappa Kalburgi is passionate about services to the community. He has been involved over several years in a number of community groups that were based in India, United Arab Emirates, and New Zealand, since 1994.
He has been involved in the start-up stage of many organisations such as in his role as founder Treasurer for ‘The Asian Network Incorporated’ (TANI), as founder Secretary for ‘New Zealand Kannada Koota Inc.’, as founder President of ‘New Zealand Vedanta Education Society Inc.’ and founder President of ‘Basava Samithi of Australasia (NZ Chapter) Inc.’
Currently, he is also actively involved with several other organizations such as ‘Auckland Indian Association’, ‘New Zealand Indian Central Association’, ‘Auckland District Council of Social Services’ (ADCOSS), “Sandringham Business Association”, Auckland City COGS Local Distribution Committee (LDC) and Chairman of the Sandringham Community Centre.
In June 2004, he was appointed as “Justice of the Peace (JP) for New Zealand” and in 2007, he was awarded the Queen “Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) for serving the Indian community in New Zealand”. He is currently Treasurer for the Auckland Greypower Association and has served in this role over the past three years. The association has seven hundred members.
Dr Kalburgi is based in Auckland and lives a contented life with his wife Leena, two adult sons and four grandchildren.
